How to choose when to do your Autumn Family Pictures
Doing your Autumn family pictures early in the season is a great idea if you are wanted some muted greens instead of vibrant colors. It is always a good idea to think of where you will display your portraits in your home. If your vibe is light, airy and a lot of neutrals with some soft color pops here and there, then you want images that will look good in that environment. If you decorate with a lot of deep, rich colors, then the vibrant fall colors may be more your styling choice. This family’s home is light and airy with some color pops of blue. Mom chose their outfits based around their home decor, but also on what their youngest daughter wanted to wear. Since her flowy dress was blue and cream, that is what the rest of the family chose in their wardrobe, but with some variances to ensure variety and fit individual style/personalities. This is a great example of what to wear for your upcoming Autumn family pictures.
Choosing your session location
I had suggested this location for what this family was looking for. They showed me some images from past sessions when the kiddos were little tots. Mom wanted a location that had some heritage looking architecture as they did something similar in the past and they wanted to recreate one of the images. These old wooden heritage homes served that purpose perfectly. Bonus for the front steps to recreate their old family portrait. Plus, this location is only 10 minutes from their house.
There are so many location choices in the Athens, Oconee and surrounding areas. Between fields, lakes, manicured parks, quaint downtown scenes, parks with natural country vibes and shoals, you are covered.
I love tree lined drives and this one in particular is one of my favorites. It is great Spring, Summer and Fall! Gives such variety of colors throughout the year. This is what early Fall looks like. In the Spring and Summer, the trees are fresh green. In the later Fall, the colors are super vibrant. Lighting is great here in the morning and evening, although evening is my favorite with the angles I can shoot in.
The white fencing adds a nice touch and element to Autumn family pictures too. Great way to finish off their session as we headed to the car. Dad got an updated headshot, mom and dad got a few more portraits together and the youngest daughter got some more images she wanted for herself. Love how their images turned out and how all the colors worked together.
