50th Wedding Anniversary Portraits in Athens, GA

When this sweet husband contacted me to schedule his 50th wedding anniversary portraits, I was over the moon! There is nothing like the celebration of love. He used to work for Kodak and is a big fan of photography, so it was such an honor and compliment that he would choose me to be his photographer for this big milestone.

They mentioned that their happy place is on a lake and around water, so naturally I immediately started thinking of options for locations in the Athens, GA area that had water. I gave them a few options, along with pictures from my location scouts and they both chose Lake Herrick on UGAs campus. It is a place they had never been, but it really was perfect for them.

I love how these two look at each other and have an ease and flow that comes with their years together. Loved hearing about how they met, their wedding and all their travels. Goals! Sweetest couple and deserving of all the happiness that has come their way.

I love how it was the husband here who booked the session and set everything up. Such a sweet and romantic gift to his bride of 50 years. They really wanted images of themselves not only for their own home, but for their children and grandchildren too. I know these are gifts that will be appreciated now and years down the line too. I just celebrated my 25 year wedding anniversary and looking at these images reminds me how important images like this are not only for the couple, but for the entire family. It isn’t often that couples get photographed by themselves once we have children, but I think it is so important. After all, it is that love that started it all! That is certainly worth celebrating and documenting!!!!! Happy 50th wedding anniversary! Here’s to many many more to come – full of laughter, memories and joy.

St. Louis will always have a special place in my heart. Summer is hot, but gives such beautiful family portrait opportunities. This family had a busy day with ball games in the morning, playtime in the afternoon and then they headed across the street to this amazing spot for their Summer family photos. Weather was perfection and the boys were in such great moods! I have been photographing this family before the boys were even born for their very first maternity session and I have to say, this past session was one off my favorites. I think a lot of it had to do with the location. It is a place the boys are super familiar with and it seemed more like play for them.

Cannot get enough of those adorable freckles and big eyes on both of the boys. Nothing screams summer like some freckled noses and cheeks.

We ended the session with some sweet images of mom and dad alone. Love being able to get images like this of the parents when we are able!

What To Wear Spring And Summer Family Photos

More than any other question, I am always asked by clients what they should wear to their family session. What you wear sets the tone for your pictures, so choosing your outfits can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! The most important thing to remember is that your clothing should reflect your own personal style, you should feel comfortable and wear what makes you feel good.

01 ALWAYS FEEL COMFORTABLE

The most important thing to rememeber is that your clothing should reflect your own personal style, you should feel comfortable and wear something that makes you genuinely confident and happy. If you feel good, you will look good! Choose clothing that gives you freedom of movement and won’t require a lot of maintenance throughout your session.

02 CONSIDER YOUR HOME DECOR

When you are picking a color scheme please bear in mind that these colors will be the colors displaying on your wall so you would like your images match with the interior of your house.

03 CONSIDER YOUR LOCATION

Always keep your session location in mind when choosing your outfit. You don’t want to blend with your background. If you want natural looking, relaxed images, dress in a way that’s appropriate for your location.

04 COLORS

I recommend that you start by selecting a base of 2-3 colors and carry those through the outfits so that everything “goes” together but doesn’t match. Keep in mind that the colors you choose for each family member do not have to match, but they should look nice together. Mix neutrals with some accent colors. Neutral colors create a soft and elegant style, and will give your images a timeless feel.

05 START WITH ONE PERSON FIRST

My advice is to start with mum’s outfit first. This will set the pace for the rest of the family’s wardrobe. When you are choosing your outfit, try mixing it up with textures : tulle skirt, lace dress, denim jacket, etc…

06 IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Professional hair and makeup is a splurge but it is decision you will never regret. What better excuse to pamper yourself than a photo session? The more confident you feel with the way you look, the more relaxed you will be in your photos.

Check your finger nails, you do not want chipped nail polish because it can be seen. If you are wearing sandals, make sure you have a pedicure too.

Remember to iron the outfits. You are investing time and money into a custom portrait session, take the time to ensure everything has been reviewed.

Shoes are a very important part of wardrobe and they make the whole look cohesive Choose colors and styles that coordinate with the choice of your outfits. Steer clear of flip-flops, runners/sneakers, or shoes that are too worn out.
