Founders Garden Family Photoshoot In The Fall

This is the second time I had the honor of photographing this sweet family for their family photoshoot in the fall. This time we headed to Founders Garden on UGA’s campus to give them a different feel from the year before. Mom wanted a manicured garden, but we needed a location that is handicap accessible and didn’t have a lot of people. Founders Garden fit all of our needs – especially since we picked a day where I knew we would have easy parking and no crowds.

Little brother absolutely adores his big sister and I think the feeling is quite mutual. I can just feel the bond between these two and the entire family through their portraits. Delight to witness in person too. Such an ease about them as well as fun and love.

Mom always does such a great job with dressing her family for their family photoshoot. Love the cream, beige, white and pale blue color scheme. Works out great for the early fall season. Classic and refined for this beautiful manicured garden. I always recommend coordinating your wardrobe to your surroundings and with your home decor. Great example of what to wear for your upcoming early autumn family photoshoot.

We finished the session with portraits of mom and dad alone. I love it when we are able to capture the love between parents during a family photoshoot. Having professional photos with each other is something to be cherished – not only for you, but for your children as well.

When Should I Schedule An Heirloom Photography Session?

Heirloom portraits are such a staple for many families – especially here in the South. These sessions are rather simple in style. Usually a white or a hand painted canvas backdrop. Attire is traditional timepieces – usually with smocking, lace, Peter Pan collars, all in white, cream or pastel colors. Silver rattles and favorite stuffed animals sometimes make their appearance as well. Full body and tight shots where the focus is on the face are both featured.

BEST AGES FOR HEIRLOOM PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

Heirloom photography is a classic way to document your child between the ages of 1-10. Many families choose a specific age depending on when they had their own portraits done as a child or when they feel is most fitting to start the tradition themselves. The most popular age I see clients for their heirloom photography session is between three and four years old. This is the age range where the child can take some direction and is attentive. They still have those precious filled out faces and adorable child features that just don’t last. I have quite a few parents bring their one year old in for this timeless portraits as well.

BOOK A PRIVATE SESSION OR A SPOT AT AN HEIRLOOM PHOTOGRAPHY EVENT

I offer heirloom photography events four times a year – one for each season. These are done on a specific day and are scheduled back to back for 15 minutes each. When siblings are scheduled one after another, I include a sibling portrait as well! The backdrop is a simple white seamless paper and we do some images with a chair, stool or bench as well as without.

If you think your child needs more time or if you want more customization, I suggest booking your own heirloom session. This allows you more time, choices in backdrops (handprinted canvases or seamless papers), outfit changes, more variety with furniture, etc… You will also get to choose if you do the session in the Yvonne Niemann Photography home studio, at your home or other location. Some families even choose a pretty manicured garden for their child’s heirloom portraits. Of course, multiple children can be included when you book your private heirloom photography session, which is great for larger families.

Heirloom Photography in near Atlanta

Silhouettes are available when you do an heirloom session. You can choose from the classic black or a watercolor in gray, blue or pink. If it is something you are wanting, bring a hair tie to put your little girl’s hair in a ponytail if she has longer hair. Boys and girls with short hair, don’t need anything extra.

Heirloom Photography In Athens, GA

These siblings came in for an heirloom photography session. Mom chose to do a Signature Session to allow more time for her four kiddos and to get some additional images of the baby in the family. Worked out marvelously.

Outfits for the gals came from an Etsy store and big brother’s outfit is from Target. Great finds that are fitting for an heirloom photography session while coordinating for when everyone is together like in the above image, but also looks great one-on-one.

I hold heirloom photography events each season, but also offer personalized heirloom sessions when you need a bit more time and variety in your images.

Differences in heirloom photography sessions:

Heirloom portrait events

Short 15 minute time slots for an individual child. Siblings can be booked back to back to allow a sibling portrait. The background is a white backdrop.

The signature heirloom session

Lasts up to 90 minutes and can include multiple children and even family pets. You can choose to do the heirloom photography session at your home, outside or at the Yvonne Niemann Photography home studio. You can choose your backdrop as well as a few different sitting options. There are several different backdrops to choose from – white, gray, cream and hand painted muslins in various neutral shades. Sitting options include various stools, chairs, a bench and a settee. If you want other images that are not heirloom portraits, you can do that too during a signature heirloom photography session!

Simplicity heirloom sessions

Last 30 minutes and can be for an individual child who needs more time to warm up or would like to include a family pet or one other child. These sessions can be done at your home, outdoors or the Yvonne Niemann Photography home studio. You can also choose your backdrop as well as a sitting options.

One of my favorite locations is almost ready for pretty cherry tree blossom sessions! Every year is a little different - sometime the blooms are pink and other years they are the palest of pink. Lighting is perfect, lots of trees to give dimension and plenty of room to explore, cuddle and move.

It’s flattering, gentle on skin tones, and creates that dreamy glow you simply can’t replicate at noon. The wind calms, the beach feels peaceful, and the magic naturally unfolds.

This sweet mother-daughter moment was captured on Jekyll Island at Driftwood Beach just as the sun was rising — when the sky turns pastel and the reflections shimmer along the shoreline.

When you trust the light, you get images that feel timeless, effortless, and full of heart.
