Shelby’s maternity portrait session took place on a beautiful morning last month just 10 days before she gave birth to her adorable baby boy. This beautiful mom-to-be had told me that she loved outdoor portraits, but her husband really likes those dramatic images, so we did a bit of both. I think it worked out beautifully. Forty deserves to be celebrated!

For her 40th birthday portraits, she wanted vibrant color, an urban setting and images that felt fun, polished and completely her. We photographed at the same Atlanta location where she would later celebrate her birthday, complete with a brand-new haircut, balloons, a cupcake bouquet and the most fabulous birthday cake purse.

And just like that…the final milestone of her first year.

I first photographed this sweet girl while she was still in her mama’s belly, followed by tummy time, sitting, crawling and now her first birthday. Watching those tiny changes unfold through photographs is such a special part of what I do.

For her birthday session, we filled my studio with balloons and let her explore. Simple, classic and celebratory - with no worries about the Georgia heat or unpredictable weather.

Such a beautiful way to remember one very big year.

One of the best things about choosing an in-home newborn session? Everything you need is right there. Diapers, bottles, favorite blankets, an entire closet to choose from - and a quick outfit change is easy when those inevitable newborn accidents happen!

It’s also wonderful for older siblings. They can play with their own toys, grab a snack or take a little break when they need one. No packing everyone up and no worrying about forgetting something.
