This couple’s winter maternity photography session took place last year right before Christmas, which made a local tree farm in Bisop, GA the perfect location for their portrait backdrop. This time of year is an exciting and magical time, but when you are expecting your first baby, it makes things just that more special. You can just feel the love and joy these two parents have as they eagerly await the birth of their son with great anticipation. It was such an honor to photograph these two during this special time.

When is the best time for a newborn session?

For those tiny, curled-up, super sleepy images, I usually recommend the first two weeks.

But honestly… there’s no wrong time to document a new baby.

Many of my families choose to schedule their session around six weeks. By then baby is a little bigger, often more wide-eyed and curious, and parents and siblings are usually more rested and settling into their new rhythm.

You may still get some sleepy moments — just a little less curled up.

Every stage of these early days is beautiful and worth remembering.

There’s a reason I plan my sessions for the edges of the day. Right before sunrise and just before sunset, the sun sits low on the horizon, wrapping everything in soft, golden light. It’s flattering, gentle on skin tones, and creates that dreamy glow you simply can’t replicate at noon. The wind calms, the beach feels peaceful, and the magic naturally unfolds.

This sweet mother-daughter moment was captured on Jekyll Island at Driftwood Beach just as the sun was rising — when the sky turns pastel and the reflections shimmer along the shoreline.

When you trust the light, you get images that feel timeless, effortless, and full of heart.
