Tis the Season | Christmas in California

I don’t think it gets any cuter than this! This portrait was truly a family effort. Dad made the hot chocolate stand, mom styled everything and the kiddos (including pup) were their adorable selves. Mom had contacted me about wanting to do Christmas portraits while I was in San Diego. I immediately thought of a Christmas tree farm and began researching places and gaining permission to do their family portraits on the premises. Luckily, I found this tree farm where you could cut down your own trees. The owner was super nice and accommodating and everything worked out perfectly. Dad mentioned that this is what Christmas was like as a kid for him. Cutting down your own tree with hot chocolate in hand to warm you up. Wonderful memories relived and shared with the kiddos. I love that you can see the San Diego mountains in the background and even a hint of a palm tree in the upper right corner. So California. Such a festive feel, while giving this family a taste of home. Merry Christmas!

There’s a reason I plan my sessions for the edges of the day. Right before sunrise and just before sunset, the sun sits low on the horizon, wrapping everything in soft, golden light. It’s flattering, gentle on skin tones, and creates that dreamy glow you simply can’t replicate at noon. The wind calms, the beach feels peaceful, and the magic naturally unfolds.

This sweet mother-daughter moment was captured on Jekyll Island at Driftwood Beach just as the sun was rising — when the sky turns pastel and the reflections shimmer along the shoreline.

When you trust the light, you get images that feel timeless, effortless, and full of heart.
