St. Louis Children’s Photographer | Beginnings of Spring!

Ahhhhh…Spring… What a wonderful time to get outside for customized portraits! Yesterday, I wrote about the workshop I attended in Utah and today I thought I’d share with you some more images that I took that I got to set up the way I like while I was there. It was a bit cooler and bit drizzly on this particular day, but I was able to shoot through it with these wonderful subjects. It’s all about finding the right light in any location. It’s how I shoot and what  I love about the images I create for families. Spring sessions are already booked full, but there are many openings for the Summer and Fall still. If you would like to get on the calendar, contact St. Louis Children’s Photographer, Yvonne Niemann Photography, as soon as possible. info@yvonneniemannphotography.com  706.713.0676

Continuing Education

Every year, I budget for at least two workshops – one that will advance my photography skills and one that’s geared towards running my business. Last week I attended my first photography workshop of the year by the ever talented Nichole Van based out of Salt Lake City. A couple of years ago, I bought her workshop in the box, which is basically a book and DVD that is just overflowing with photography information. That one book, written by Nichole, really made me see photography a bit different and helped take my work to another level. Nichole is such a great teacher and is so open with sharing her knowledge. I was happy to find that she is the same in person. Her husband, Dave, is also a wealth of information and the two of them make such a wonderful team. They truly are blessed to have each other. The workshop was very informative and as an added bonus, I made some life-long friends in the process. Below are two images from Nichole Van’s Professional Workshop. I decided to post these two first as it’s a bit out of the norm from my regular body of work. It actually reminds me of a family portrait session I did two Autumn’s ago in Alton, IL. I don’t get to capture those older than toddlers that often, but when I do, this type of artistic treatment is quite fun and gets my creative juices flowing. I start thinking of what I could with a family in this type of environment with their cute lil’ kiddos. Perfect for the modern family!

My Mom!

Last week, I was in Utah for a photography workshop and luckily, my mom came to St. Louis to help take care of my sweet lil’ Lily. It  was so nice to know that my daughter was in good hands while my husband and I were working. When I got back, my  mom showed me some of the new clothes she had bought while I was away and I offered to take some portraits of her. To be honest, I wanted these images for myself. As a little girl, I used to look at my mom’s hands in church and memorize the curves, lines and her nail beds. I would stare at her face while she took her daily afternoon naps when I was a little girl. I have always been amazed with her one green eye and one blue eye. Now that I’m older, I can really see certain traits in our appearances that are very much the same and I now wonder if I am aging like her too. Those laugh lines really do show how much joy my mom has for life and when I see the start of those same lines on my face, I don’t try to hide them, as it shows the years of laughter and happiness of my life. I find myself staring at these images of my mom, taking in those little details that tell me so many stories. Miles may keep us apart, but having images like this gives me comfort in knowing that my mom is always there for my family and me. It also gives my daughter a chance to “see” her MeMa on a daily basis!
