Yesterday morning I headed out to do a location scout for upcoming Winter portrait sessions in Athens, GA. I stopped at many places, but this lake was my favorite of the day. There are several things that I look for when selecting locations for photo shoots. I am looking at the quality of light during certain times of day, interest in foreground and background, variety, accessibility and how it will fit with clients’ lifestyles. Each photo session I do is customized for the individual client and so I do a lot of leg work to make sure that the setting for their portraits is perfect for them. This particular setting would be great for a family that loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, being on the lake, campfires and would like a more romantic rustic feel to their final artwork. I can totally see a family cuddled in a favorite blanket together surrounding themselves with each other’s love. I can see a father and son fishing off the dock or just enjoying the view. I envision the family holding hands walking through the woods exploring and the kids running across the bridge with laughter. There are so many options here and I know that it will be perfect for certain families. I can’t wait to see it change with the seasons! I think it’s heavenly in the Winter, but I’m sure it’s beauty shines throughout the year. When thinking of your own family photography session, look at your family’s dynamic and what you would like to remember during this time of your lives together. What do you want your portraits to convey and where will they be displayed in your home. These are all things to consider when working with your photographer on choosing the perfect location for your portraits. Location scouting is just one of the many services I provide my clients.
