Statham, GA Fall Outdoor Family Portrait

Such a pleasure photographing this family of four for their Fall outdoor family portrait in Statham, GA. Mom had wanted a natural setting for their photos and I was lucky to find this beautiful field right in their neighborhood. I did some location scouting and this particular area stopped me in my tracks with the way the light was hitting the tall wheat colored grass. I just knew it would be the perfect spot for their portraits.

I adore how cuddly these four are together. They are a super sporty family who really enjoys playing various sports as well as cheering on their favorite teams as well as each other. I was able to use some of that information to help get the type of images this family was hoping for in their finished photographic artwork. Isn’t this just the cutest image?

Mom did a great job with her family’s wardrobe. The colors, textures and styles are just perfect for a traditional Southern family, but also for this setting and time of year. Great example of what to wear for your Fall outdoor family portrait session!

There’s a reason I plan my sessions for the edges of the day. Right before sunrise and just before sunset, the sun sits low on the horizon, wrapping everything in soft, golden light. It’s flattering, gentle on skin tones, and creates that dreamy glow you simply can’t replicate at noon. The wind calms, the beach feels peaceful, and the magic naturally unfolds.

This sweet mother-daughter moment was captured on Jekyll Island at Driftwood Beach just as the sun was rising — when the sky turns pastel and the reflections shimmer along the shoreline.

When you trust the light, you get images that feel timeless, effortless, and full of heart.
