Fall Family Portraits Oconee County, GA

There is something especially beautiful about a fall evening in Oconee County. Soft golden light, comfortable temperatures and plenty of room for children to move and play make this season ideal for relaxed family portraits.

This family of four had the perfect evening for their fall portrait session. The open landscape gave us space for the girls to run, laugh and interact naturally, while the changing leaves and warm sunset light added just the right touch of autumn.

But some of my favorite images from this session are the quieter ones – a daughter wrapped around her mom, hands held while talking together and the little expressions that show just how loved these girls are.

Mom Belongs in the Photographs, Too

So often, Mom is the one documenting family life. She is taking the everyday pictures, remembering the milestones and making sure childhood is preserved. The result is that she can sometimes be missing from the very collection of photographs she has worked so hard to create.

A family portrait session changes that.

It gives Mom a chance to step out from behind the camera and into the frame – not simply for a traditional family portrait, but for photographs that show the relationships she has with her children right now.

The hugs. The laughter. The way they look at her. The way they still reach for her hand.

Those images become more meaningful with time.

A beautiful location certainly helps set the scene, but family photographs are ultimately about the people in them. My goal is always to create a combination of polished portraits and natural, emotion-filled images that tell the story of your family in this particular season.

What do you do when you want your furry family member in at least one family picture, but the location does not allow pets? You follow the rules and take portraits in the park and then at the end, you get a few images in the parking lot. The light was gorgeous coming through the trees here and their pup seemed to be so happy to be included!

Now, there are a lot of locations that allow pets, but if your heart is set on a place where they are not permitted, we can always find an option either at the beginning or the end of the session where we can document your important family member too!

Mom always does such a great job dressing her family and last night was no exception. One little sentimental touch - little brother is wearing the same sweater his big brother wore at their last photo session. Love how he fits into now and how it all comes full circle!

These sweet sisters had the prettiest November portrait session at Founder`s Garden on UGA`s campus. The vibrant fall foliage was the perfect backdrop, while their soft pinks, delicate florals and cozy layers complemented the scenery beautifully.

Late October and early November are some of my favorite times for fall family photos in Athens, GA. Gorgeous colors, comfortable temperatures and beautiful memories to treasure for years to come.
