Went on a location scout this morning and came across magnolia trees in bloom! What a slice of heaven in St. Louis! This image will get blown up and displayed in my daughter’s room. It’ll look perfect with her light green walls and pink flowered bedding. My lil’ girl is growing up and she deserves some big girl artwork to decorate her space.
I am nominated for Best of Georgia family photographers again!!!! That’s three years in a row!

I love pretty light. There are specific things I look for when choosing a location and deciding where to put my subjects to get the outcome I desire.
If you have done a session with me, you may notice me looking at the sky a lot and seeing what is behind me. I am looking for an open sky or a clean reflecting area. This ensures that the light falls nicely on you and makes your eyes sparkle. If there is something dark in front of you or something that will make a color cast like a brick building, then that is a no go for me.
I also prefer back lighting or slightly side lighting. This means no squinting, no dappled light and a pretty glow that makes you stand out from the background.
Even when under shade, I am looking to see where the sun is. You will notice me not only looking behind me, but also above when deciding where to place you under something like a tree. I like to place my subjects just at the edge of a shaded area.
This family`s portraits are a good example of what I am looking for in terms of light. We did their session about 90 minutes before sunset. The sun was still a bit too bright for the open field, so we started under the tree. The sun is behind them and slightly to camera left. We the moved to the open area and allowed the sun to backlight my subjects. Sun was coming through the trees behind the girl, which made the background glow magically while also giving more dimension.
I absolutely love looking at light and how it affects landscape, people and animals. When it hits just right, it is as if the angels are singing. My daughter even comments on some of our drives and walks on the lighting. She knows me so well!

My baby girl is heading off to college in three weeks. We were looking at her calendar and the things she wants to do before she moves and it hit us how we are running out of time. We have accomplished so much this summer, but still have a lot to do.
Most items have been bought, but there are all the little things that we still need to get. Then there is the question on whether we just buy those things once we are there or haul it all at the same time.
My husband is making some items in the woodshop for her dorm as well - hutch for her desk and a table top that will go across her roommate and her tall dressers to give them extra storage above their fridge and microwave. I know she has a few more items to get in terms of decorations, but luckily most of that is already here!
Oh, and you cannot forget paying tuition and fees in the next two weeks.
She is also trying to schedule some fun outings with her friends - Six Flags and floating in Helen. Plus needing to hang out with friends and some dear former teachers as well.
Then there are all the doctor appointments and a hair appointment that are all scheduled in the next couple of weeks.
Such an exciting time and it will be great to see it all come together and how her next chapter unfolds. I think there are some great things in her future!

School starts up in a three weeks here in Oconee County. That also means it is time for senior portraits!
The beginning of the school year is always a popular time for senior phot sessions for those who want images for social media from the start. Allows you to have photos for all of those senior Sunday posts that are so popular.
For those who aren`t as concerned about having professional images for social media at the very beginning of their senior year, there are other things to consider.
- Your favorite time of year. If you like Fall with cooler temps, vibrant colors of nature, and all the fashion that comes with the season, consider a session in October or November.
- Do you have a favorite destination? Consider a session there!
- Do you like layers, wheat colored fields and perhaps a few Christmas decorations? December will be your friend.
- Love Spring blooms and the fashion of that season? Things start blooming in February and go throughout the Spring before school ends.
- Want images when you have your cap and gown and know where you are going to college? End of April and beginning of May will be your best bet.
- Have a particular location mind, but not sure when it looks the best? Let me know as I may have the answer for you!

Also, you may also want to consider having your best friends join in on your session and perhaps some updated family portraits as well. I know us parents sure do love family photos before our children move away! ;)

A lot of new moms (or moms to be) wonder when the best time is to hold their newborn portrait session. I highly recommend booking your session when you are in your second or beginning of third trimester to ensure you get the date/timeframe you want.
If you want those super curled up fresh newborn images, I would suggest doing your portrait session within the first two weeks of life. This is also when babies are usually their sleepiest as well.
If you want some wide eyed images and a bit more filled out baby portraits, you may want to wait until your baby is around a month old. We will still be able to get those sweet sleeping images as well.
Newborn sessions can take place outdoors, in studio or in your home. Send me a message if you have any questions or need help deciding what would be the best fit for your family. Always happy to help where I can.
